Company description
Bboxx Energy Access Nigeria is at the forefront of driving economic empowerment in Nigeria, transforming the lives of underserved rural communities and aspiring urban households. Through innovative last-mile logistics and data-driven financing models, we provide seamless, affordable access to life-changing energy solutions. We have delivered sustainable clean energy to over 36,000 households, significantly reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint while enabling progress in energy-deprived communities.
Our Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) model ensures flexibility and accessibility, empowering low-income families to transition from unreliable and costly energy sources to sustainable, modern alternatives—unlocking opportunities for growth, productivity, and improved quality of life.
At the core of our operations is the Bboxx Pulse® System, a proprietary platform that enables seamless customer journey management, real-time tracking of inventory, payments, receivables reconciliation, and sales activities, ensuring efficiency and transparency. Bboxx fosters local job creation, gender inclusion, and long-term community development, positioning itself as a catalyst for Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
Team
Bboxx Energy Access Nigeria is part of the wider Bboxx Group (transitioned to ABCI NEXUS), operating alongside other country OpCos. BEAN has a team of 89 staff supporting its operations in Nigeria. Overall leadership is provided by the Country Managing Director, supported by the Finance Lead and Head of Operations, who are responsible for financial oversight, strategic direction, and operational execution. Project pitch
This project will deploy PAY-Go-enabled, solar-powered AC and energy storage systems—primarily in the 2 kVA to 5 kVA range—to underserved households and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria, addressing unreliable grid supply and high-cost diesel dependence. Nigeria experiences frequent power outages, with electricity unavailable for an average of 8–10 hours daily in many areas, while over 80% of MSMEs rely on self-generation using diesel or petrol generators (World Bank, 2021; International Energy Agency [IEA], 2023). Diesel generation costs, often exceeding $0.30 per kWh, significantly increase operating expenses and constrain business growth (Rocky Mountain Institute [RMI], 2022). The solution integrates high-efficiency inverter-based AC systems with lithium-ion (LiFePO₄) battery storage and solar generation, delivering reliable, clean, and cost-effective power.
Through a structured PAYGo (Pay-As-You-Go) financing model, the project eliminates upfront cost barriers and aligns repayments with customer cash flow cycles, particularly for MSMEs whose productivity is directly affected by energy reliability. This enables access to productive-use energy systems that improve business continuity and reduce costs.
Implementation will leverage Bboxx Energy Access Nigeria’s established last-mile infrastructure, including 25 retail outlets, over 400 trained sales agents, and certified technicians. Systems will be managed through the Bboxx Pulse® platform, providing real-time monitoring of performance, uptime, and repayment behavior, ensuring operational efficiency and scalability.
