Company description
Protergia Energy Limited is a Nigerian clean energy utility and project development company headquartered in Abuja, founded in 2014. We design, develop, and operate renewable energy infrastructure including isolated and interconnected minigrids, captive solar power systems, and Energy-as-a-Service solutions serving commercial, industrial, and underserved communities across Nigeria and West Africa. Our portfolio spans utility-scale minigrid projects, on-site captive power for businesses, and strategic energy advisory services. We work with globally recognised technology partners including Huawei, Schneider Electric, Jinko Solar, and Canadian Solar, and have received funding support from the United States African Development Foundation (USADF). We are actively seeking European partners, investors, and collaborators to accelerate project development, expand our pipeline, and co-develop scalable clean energy solutions across Africa. Our target is to ensure one million subscribers connected to reliable, affordable clean energy by 2027.

Project pitch
Protergia Energy is presenting six shovel-ready isolated minigrid sites across Ondo and Taraba States, representing one of the most advanced and de-risked renewable energy investment opportunities in Nigeria’s off-grid sector today.
All six sites operate under the World Bank-backed DARES (Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up) framework, with REA Site Specific Applications approved and engineering designs fully completed. Grant agreements are at advanced stage, awaiting signature. This is not a speculative project — it is a portfolio seeking debt capital to close a fully structured financing stack and deliver clean, reliable power to communities currently without access to electricity, targeting commissioning by 2027.
The six sites are Arimogija ($676K, 1,222 connections), Ijagba & Imoru ($1.17M, 1,861 connections), Jatau ($627K, 1,121 connections), Kabri-Sambariki ($346K, 623 connections), Mbamnga/Bang ($1.43M, 2,751 connections), and anchor site Serti ($7.63M, 13,422 connections) — totalling $11.87M capex and 20,980 direct connections serving over 100,000 beneficiaries across Ondo and Taraba States.
Protergia’s proven Energy-as-a-Service model delivers greater than 98% revenue collection via prepaid smart metering, with commercial and anchor loads including market stalls, agro-processing facilities, and healthcare centres ensuring stable base revenue from day one of commissioning. With DARES grants targeting approximately 80% of total capex and Protergia equity deployed as a further buffer, debt investors gain a structured, secured position in a regulated, World Bank-backed programme with a decade-experienced Nigerian operator, government-approved sites, and a clear 2027 go-live target.
We are actively seeking European debt partners and investors to co-finance this portfolio and accelerate scalable clean energy access across Nigeria and West Africa.
