Phoenix Edison

Company description

Phoenix Edison develops decentralised waste-to-energy solutions to end open burning of waste and deliver clean, affordable baseload power to underserved Nigerian industries and consumers. Our projects span a 24MW municipal solid waste-to-energy grid connected plant in the South East and captive rice husk biomass gasification systems for agro-processing facilities in South East and South West of Nigeria. With GIZ-supported pre-feasibility work underway, we offer EU partners a bankable platform for technology transfer, carbon credit generation, and sustainable infrastructure investment aligned with EU-Africa climate goals.

Phoenix Edison’s mission is to accelerate sustainable economic growth in Africa by unlocking the value of waste as a clean energy resource while reducing emissions and improving energy security.

Team

Phoenix Edison is led by a multidisciplinary team combining deep expertise in renewable energy project development, infrastructure finance, engineering, and sustainability. The company is spearheaded by its Managing Director, Noble Ekajeh, who brings extensive experience in structuring and advancing complex energy and infrastructure projects across Africa, including stakeholder engagement with governments, development finance institutions, and private sector partners. Our core team is complemented by a strong consortium of technical and institutional partners. This includes leading international engineering firms supporting feasibility and design, as well as collaboration with development agencies providing technical assistance and grant funding support. We also engage local and international legal, financial, and environmental advisors to ensure projects meet global best practices and bankability standards. For specific projects, Phoenix Edison adopts a consortium-based approach—bringing together EPC contractors, technology providers, feedstock partners, and financiers—to deliver fully integrated waste-to-energy solutions. This model ensures both technical robustness and long-term operational sustainability. Collectively, the team and its partners combine local execution capability with international technical and financial expertise, positioning Phoenix Edison to successfully develop and scale renewable energy infrastructure across Nigeria and West Africa.

Project pitch

Phoenix Edison is showcasing a portfolio of scalable waste-to-energy projects in Nigeria that convert agricultural residues and municipal solid waste into reliable, low-carbon power. We are currently developing distributed biomass energy systems for industrial clients, alongside a flagship 24MW municipal waste-to-energy project in South East Nigeria designed to process urban waste while delivering baseload electricity to the grid.

Our projects address two critical challenges simultaneously: Nigeria’s energy deficit and inefficient waste management practices. By replacing diesel-based generation, landfill waste diversion and eliminating open burning of waste streams, the projects deliver strong environmental and economic benefits, including reduced emissions, improved energy security, and cost savings for industrial users and municipalities.

We are seeking strategic partners across the value chain, including technology providers (biomass gasification and waste-to-energy systems), EPC contractors, and operational partners with experience in emerging markets. In parallel, we are looking to engage equity investors, development finance institutions, and grant partners to support project development, construction, and scale-up.

Phoenix Edison is particularly interested in collaborations that bring proven technologies, concessional financing structures, and long-term operational expertise to enable bankable and replicable projects across Nigeria and the wider West African region.
