Company description

EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES is an agricultural extension and agribusiness company based in Nigeria, focused on improving the productivity and livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

We provide practical field support services, agrochemicals, quality farm inputs, farmer training, and advisory services across crop production value chains, especially rice and sesame farming.

Our work is centered on sustainable agriculture, climate-smart practices, and rural development. We also support farmer data collection, field monitoring, and loan recovery management in partnership with agricultural programs.

With strong field experience across multiple communities, we are committed to increasing food production, empowering rural farmers, and promoting innovative and environmentally friendly farming solutions.

Team

Group, Consortium and Leadership

The project is led by EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES, an agricultural extension and agribusiness organization with strong field experience in working directly with smallholder farmers across rural communities in Nigeria.

The team is headed by Bashar Abubakar, an Agricultural Extension and Rural Development professional with several years of experience in farmer training, field supervision, input distribution, and agricultural data collection. He has successfully worked on large-scale agricultural programs supporting thousands of farmers, with strong expertise in rice production systems and rural extension services.

The implementation team includes trained field extension officers, community-based facilitators, and local agricultural stakeholders who will support farmer engagement, training, and field monitoring activities.

The project will also engage local farmer cooperatives and community leaders to ensure effective participation, ownership, and sustainability of the intervention.

Where required, the project will collaborate with technical partners in renewable energy and irrigation systems to support installation, maintenance, and technical training for solar-powered irrigation equipment.

Together, the team combines technical agricultural knowledge, field experience, and community engagement capacity to successfully implement and scale the project.

Project pitch

Climate-Smart Solar Irrigation for Smallholder Farmers

EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES has identified access to affordable irrigation as one of the biggest challenges facing smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Many farmers depend solely on rainfall because fuel-powered water pumps are expensive to operate, resulting in underutilized farmland during the dry season, reduced food production, and lower incomes.

Climate change has further intensified these challenges through irregular rainfall patterns and increasing drought conditions, negatively affecting food security and rural livelihoods.

To address this challenge, EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES has developed the Climate-Smart Solar Irrigation Project, designed to provide smallholder farmers with reliable and affordable solar-powered irrigation systems that support year-round farming activities.

The project will provide:

  • Solar-powered water pumps
  • Training on climate-smart farming practices
  • Irrigation and water management support
  • Extension services and farm monitoring
  • Support for women and youth farmers

By replacing petrol and diesel-powered pumps with solar technology, farmers will reduce production costs, increase crop yields, improve household incomes, and reduce environmental impact.

The project will initially target selected farming communities and gradually expand to reach more farmers across rural areas. It is expected to contribute significantly to food security, poverty reduction, and sustainable agricultural development.

EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES is seeking grant funding and strategic partnerships to implement and scale this initiative, enabling more farmers to benefit from clean and sustainable agricultural technology.
