Project pitch
Climate-Smart Solar Irrigation for Smallholder Farmers
EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES has identified access to affordable irrigation as one of the biggest challenges facing smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Many farmers depend solely on rainfall because fuel-powered water pumps are expensive to operate, resulting in underutilized farmland during the dry season, reduced food production, and lower incomes.
Climate change has further intensified these challenges through irregular rainfall patterns and increasing drought conditions, negatively affecting food security and rural livelihoods.
To address this challenge, EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES has developed the Climate-Smart Solar Irrigation Project, designed to provide smallholder farmers with reliable and affordable solar-powered irrigation systems that support year-round farming activities.
The project will provide:
- Solar-powered water pumps
- Training on climate-smart farming practices
- Irrigation and water management support
- Extension services and farm monitoring
- Support for women and youth farmers
By replacing petrol and diesel-powered pumps with solar technology, farmers will reduce production costs, increase crop yields, improve household incomes, and reduce environmental impact.
The project will initially target selected farming communities and gradually expand to reach more farmers across rural areas. It is expected to contribute significantly to food security, poverty reduction, and sustainable agricultural development.
EL-BASHIR AGRO VENTURES is seeking grant funding and strategic partnerships to implement and scale this initiative, enabling more farmers to benefit from clean and sustainable agricultural technology.
